GrafxKid’s Today Land Palette release!

grafxkid

Hey y’all! I’m honestly surprised by the amount of notes I’m getting on my color palette posts. You people sure love your palettes.

Anyways, here is the my latest palette that has been in development for quite a long time!

image

TLP, aka the Today Land Palette (I’m so good at naming things) is my standard pixel art palette I use in all my pixel work. I did my best to make everything as clear and tasty looking as possible.

I will continue to update this palette until I physically get sick of updating it. I’ll only post an update if there are any major changes though. Keep in mind that this palette isn’t the best palette for EVERY kind of pixel art or type of drawn art in general. It’s ideal for small sprite work, which is the stuff I mostly do. You can try and prove me wrong!

The explanations above should sorta help you understand what kind of a pixel palette this is.

So for the next few images, I’ll explain my color choices.

Yellow and orange here are pretty standard, but I treated red as a shade for orange and pink. Red isn’t too bright or too saturated, making it “safe” for the eyes to view. That being said, I adjusted most “eye burn” causing colors accordingly.

The colors I watch for eye burn are reds, greens, pinks and purples.

image

I wanted to make the browns as tasty looking as possible. I split the second brown shade into a pink-brown and an orange-brown for skin shade variety. Balancing the contrast with the browns and purples was very difficult because hues would be shifting all over the dang place!

And testing this palette on 2 different computer screens was super fun.

image

For the greens, I wanted a warmer looking green rather than the common standard green with a hue value of 115 (I use GraphicsGale). The turquoise shades were the last colors to add to the palette. I don’t really work with turquoise but added them in anyway just in case.

image

Blue was pretty straight forward to work with. Being my favorite color, tweaking the shades was pretty easy compared to the other colors. Not too warm or cold.

Pinks and purples! My greatest enemies!

Yeah pinks and purples were very difficult to balance since pink can also share shades of red. I did not want the purples to be too high or too low in saturation (it’s at around 75% sat).

image

Last but not least, dare I say, the shades of grey!

Grey can split into 2 different shades. Yeh.

Wow. And there we go. A small walkthrough of the color shades! I’m terrible at writing long articles such as this~

Yes, I know. This palette is very standard, but keep in mind that you can alter the colors to your liking. I ain’t stopping you! Just don’t claim this palette as being made by you OR ELSE!

The contrast and colors may vary depending on what kind of screen you’re using. I use a Samsung S24D590 monitor for making colors and I use my tiny Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet for testing colors on a different screen.

So go crazy! Alter the colors! Make new palettes!

Oh! And don’t hesitate to ask any questions! I can probably help you with color tips I dunno! Just don’t ask me to make another palette!

Enjoy! :D

A hero without a cape

nyshadidntbreakit

Her name is Theresa Kachindamoto, and she is a senior chief - political leader of a region with a population of about 900,000 people.

She didn’t run for election; she was appointed, without her knowledge, while she was living and working in a completely different part of the country. She just received a call one day telling her to come back to her childhood home, because she was in charge now.

So she did; and when she arrived, she discovered widespread sexual abuse of children. She browbeat 50 uncooperative local leaders into accepting her decision to annul all the marriages. She then fired four of them when they continued to allow children to be married off in their areas. She still faces widespread opposition from parents who consider it their right to sexually abuse their daughters if they want to; but Kachindamoto very evidently does not give a fuck, and is continuing to use political and legal means to protect children in the region.

She’s not just an anonymous do-gooder; she’s an effective political leader despite incredibly difficult circumstances. Theresa Kachindamoto.
